Learning Objectives

The student will acquire the basic knowledge and methodology for analysis of MS, IR, UV-Vis and NMR spectra. As final goal, the students will be able to carry out a complete structural and stereochemical characterization of organic molecules, including the possible use of advanced NMR methods.


Detailed Course Content

Introduction – Mass Spectrometry – Molecular formula and MS fragmentations – IR Spectroscopy – UV-Vis Spectroscopy - Theoretical introduction to NMR spectrometry – Instrumentation and safety rules - 1H NMR spectra - 13C NMR spectra - NMR spectra and molecular structure - NMR in dynamic processes – Advanced experiments and 2D NMR - NMR spectra of heteronuclei.
