ChemXTalk – tell chemistry in a 3-minute video!

Department of Chemical Sciences to Host the “ChemXTalk” Award Ceremony

On April 18, 2026, the Department of Chemical Sciences of the University of Catania will host the award ceremony of the competition “ChemXTalk – tell chemistry in a 3-minute video!”, promoted by the Italian Chemical Society – Sicily Section and addressed to upper secondary school students in Sicily.

The initiative, funded by the National Plan for Science Degrees (PLS) – Chemistry of Sicilian universities and conceived by Dr. Angelo Nicosia, aims to promote chemical culture through science communication activities.

Participating students, organized in teams and supervised by teachers, produced short videos on the theme “Chemistry in everyday life – how chemists change the world”. Entries were evaluated by regional juries from the PLS hubs of Catania, Messina, and Palermo, which awarded several prizes, including the Jury Award, Originality Award, and Audience Award.

Winning schools will have the opportunity to take part in educational activities at the Chemistry Departments of the participating universities.

The initiative is part of the University’s third mission and outreach activities, contributing to strengthening the relationship between schools, universities, and the local community.
