Access to the PhD programme

Admission to the PhD Program in Chemical Sciences is based on a selection process that evaluates:

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Research project proposal
  • Oral interview

The call for applications is issued annually by the Rector, typically in July–August. For details, please consult the University of Catania website.

The Rector, upon proposal of the Board of Professors, appoints the admission committees by decree for the PhD courses.

Each PhD program starts on October 31 and lasts for three years.

Applicants may apply regardless of age or nationality, provided that, at the application deadline, they hold one of the following:

  • a Master’s degree (laurea magistrale) or an equivalent Italian degree
  • a foreign degree deemed suitable for admission

Alternatively, applicants may submit their application if they will obtain the required degree by October 31 of the same year; failure to obtain the degree by this date will result in forfeiture of admission, even if successfully selected.

Applicants holding a foreign degree that has not yet been declared equivalent to an Italian Master’s degree at the time of the call must submit an eligibility request exclusively for PhD admission, following the procedures specified in the call.

For further information, please contact the PhD Program Coordinator.
