Internationalisation of the doctoral programme
Period abroad
PhD students are strongly encouraged to spend at least six months at international research institutions. This opportunity is made possible by the established collaborations between members of the Faculty Board and prestigious foreign universities and research centres, as well as by the Department's numerous international cooperation agreements.
The main objectives of research experiences abroad are:
- to promote academic exchange with partner universities;
- to develop joint research projects;
- to promote the creation of scientific networks and international collaborations.
International networks
The Doctorate in Chemical Sciences is part of a large international network, which includes:
exchanges of doctoral students with partner institutions;
mobility of teachers and researchers;
joint organisation of seminars, workshops and scientific meetings;
joint supervision of doctoral theses and co-supervision programmes.
European Alliance EUNICE
Since 2021, the University of Catania has been a partner of the European University Alliance EUNICE (European University for Customised Education). Participation in EUNICE significantly strengthens the European and international dimension of the PhD programme in Chemical Sciences, expanding opportunities for mobility, advanced training and scientific collaboration for PhD students, contributing to innovative, flexible and European-oriented doctoral training. Through EUNICE, PhD students can:
- carry out research periods at partner universities within the Alliance;
- participate in interdisciplinary training and research activities at European level;
- join high-impact international scientific networks.
The EUNICE Course Catalogue allows doctoral students in Chemical Sciences to access advanced courses that complement their research path, acquire transversal and interdisciplinary skills, and obtain recognition for training activities carried out at partner universities, in accordance with the procedures laid down by the Doctorate.
PCAM European Doctorate
From 2022, the Doctorate in Chemical Sciences at the University of Catania will participate in the PCAM (Physics and Chemistry of Advanced Materials) European Doctorate, in collaboration with the Sicilian Science Cluster. The programme offers doctoral students further opportunities for international training and scientific collaboration in a highly qualified European context.
