Internationalisation of the doctoral programme
Period Abroad
PhD students are strongly encouraged to spend at least six months at international research institutions. This opportunity is made possible by the established collaborations between the members of the Board of Professors and prestigious foreign universities and research centers, as well as by numerous international cooperation agreements of the Department.
Main objectives of research experiences abroad:
- Promote academic exchange with partner universities
- Develop joint research projects
- Foster the creation of international scientific networks and collaborations
International Networks
The PhD Program in Chemical Sciences is part of a large international network, structured through:
- PhD student exchanges with partner institutions
- Mobility of faculty and researchers
- Joint organization of seminars, workshops, and scientific meetings
- Joint supervision of PhD theses and co-tutorship programs
European Alliance EUNICE
Since 2021, the University of Catania has been a partner of the European University Alliance EUNICE (European University for Customised Education). Participation in EUNICE strengthens the European and international dimension of the PhD program, expanding opportunities for mobility, advanced training, and scientific collaboration.
Through EUNICE, PhD students can:
- Conduct research periods at partner universities of the Alliance
- Participate in interdisciplinary training and research activities in the European context
- Integrate into high-impact international scientific networks
The EUNICE Course Catalogue allows PhD students to:
- Access advanced courses complementary to their research path
- Acquire transversal and interdisciplinary skills
- Obtain recognition for the training activities carried out at partner universities, according to the procedures established by the PhD program
European PhD PCAM
Since 2022, the PhD Program in Chemical Sciences has participated in the European PhD PCAM (Physics and Chemistry of Advanced Materials), in collaboration with the Sicilian Science Cluster. The program offers further opportunities for international training and scientific collaboration in a highly qualified European context.
