Laboratory of Bioinorganic Chemistry in Neurodegenerative diseases
Edificio 1 - corpo D - piano terra (Lab22)Person in charge: Giuseppe GRASSO
The research activity is focused on the investigation of the molecular interactions between biomolecules involved in some neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease. Particularly, the metalloproteases which have been demonstrated to play a role in such diseases are studied in the attempt to modulate their enzymatic activity for therapeutic purposes. The influence that metal ions and oxidative stress have in neurodegeneration is also object of investigation. Current projects are carried out in tight collaboration with other departmental and/or external groups of research, utilizing various analytical approaches such as mass spectrometry, surface plasmon resonance, fluorimetric measurements, etc.
