PhD in Chemical Sciences - XLI cycle
Tutor: Graziella VECCHIO

Agata Greta Liruzzo, born in Catania on June 25, 2000, earned her Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from the University of Catania, in March 2023 with full marks and honors, presenting a thesis entitled "Protein adsorption processes on polypyrrole-co-PCL thin films," supervised by Professor Grazia Maria Lucia Messina. She subsequently earned her Master's Degree in Chemical Sciences (Major in Materials Chemistry and Nanotechnology), in September 2025 with full marks and honors, presenting a thesis on "Preparation and characterization of PEDOT:PSS/CNC hybrid nanocomposites for biological applications," continuing her work with Professor Grazia Maria Lucia Messina. Since October 2025 she has been enrolled in the PhD program in Chemical Sciences (XLI cycle) at the University of Catania, under the supervision of Prof. Graziella Vecchio and Dr. Giuseppe Pappalardo and is working in collaboration with the CNR-IC (National Research Council of Italy - Institute of Crystallography) on the project "Nanostructured peptide systems for theragnostic purposes".

Thesis title: Nanostructured peptide systems for theragnostic purposes

Thesis abstract: The project focuses on the development and characterization of nanostructured peptide systems for theragnostic purposes. Specifically, the goal is to develop materials, and/or nanoassembled systems, functionalized with peptides, to obtain molecular tools useful for the early diagnosis and preventive therapy of Alzheimer's disease, a progressive neurodegenerative disorder with a significant negative impact on modern society.

Keywords: Peptides, theragnostics, functionalized nanoassemblies, Alzheimer’s disease
