Giovanni LI DESTRI NICOSIA

Associate Professor of Physical chemistry [CHIM/02]

ORCID: 0000-0001-6195-659X                                 Researcher ID:  C-8807-2012

Giovanni Li Destri Nicosia obtained a Master's Degree in Chemistry cum laude (2006) from the University of Catania and a PhD in Chemical Sciences from the same university (2010). He then continued his research activity as a post-doc researcher at the Department of Chemical Sciences of the University of Catania (2010-2013), the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (2013-2016) in Grenoble, France, and again at the Department of Chemical Sciences of the University of Catania (2017). In 2018 he was appointed Assistant Professor of Physical Chemistry in the framework of the “Programma Giovani Ricercatori Rita Levi Montalcini”. Since 2021 he has been Associate Professor of Physical Chemistry.

Research activity.

The research activity of prof. Li Destri Nicosia is mainly focused on the chemical-physical study of soft interfaces, with particular attention to the self-organization phenomena of soft matter under two-dimensional confinement, to the reorganization processes upon the application of mechanical stimuli and to the study and modulation of intermolecular interactions at the interface. The research activity also requires using structural characterization techniques based on X-rays and neutrons, through experiments conducted in large infrastructures such as synchrotrons and neutron sources.

This activity has led to the conduct of over 10 experiments at large European infrastructures, to the publication of over 60 articles, in collaboration, published in international scientific journals, and to over 30 presentations at national and international conferences, including some by invitation.
