1.Synthesis of heterocyclic compounds with potential anticancer activity.
2.Molecular modeling and drug-receptor interaction studies.
3.Synthesis of compounds with applications in photovoltaics and NLO.
Professor Cosimo Gianluca Fortuna, born in Catania on January 22, 1975, earned a degree in Chemistry, majoring in organic-biological sciences, from the University of Catania in 2000. In 2003, he passed the professional examination to practice as a chemist and in 2004, he received a PhD in Chemical Sciences. He has been an Associate Professor at this Department since 2018, and was qualified as a Full Professor in 2021. He has been a member of the Italian Chemical Society since 2000, and from 2007 to 2009, he served on the board of its youth group. Since January 2025, he has been President of the SCI, Sicily Section. He has been a member of the QSAR Society since 2001.
He serves as a referee for two international journals.
He is on the editorial board of an international journal (American Journal of Organic Chemistry).
Scientific responsibility for international and national projects:
Since 2023, he has been the national Principal Investigator of a PRIN 2022 project with the acronym FRASTUCA.
Since 2023, he has been the Scientific Manager for UNICT WP5 of the National PNRR INF-ACT project.
From December 2021 to December 2023, he was the Scientific Manager of a project funded by the Fondazione Siciliana.
