PhD Student
PhD in Chemical Sciences - XXXVIII cycle
Tutor: Aurore Fraix

Benjamin Clépoint is a French PhD student in photochemistry at the University of Catania (XXXVIII cycle), expecting to graduate in the end of 2025. His research interests include nanoparticles, photothermal and photodynamic therapies and green synthesis. He holds a master’s degree focused on Chemistry with Interfaces with Life and a bachelor’s in chemistry both from the University of Brest in France. Key skills include green inorganic synthesis and the characterization of gold nanoparticles, and organic synthesis and the characterization of cyclodextrins, cyclodextrin-based polymers and lipids.

Thesis title: “Green” Synthetic Methodologies for the Fabrication of Gold Nanostructures with Photothermal Properties for combined Photothermal and Photodynamic therapies.

Keywords: Gold Nanoparticles, Green synthesis, Photothermal therapy, Photodynamic Therapy, Multi Drug Resistance.

Abstract: The low success rate of new anticancer drugs, coupled with multi-drug resistance, necessitates exploring novel therapeutic approaches. Photothermal and photodynamic therapies, based on controlled heat and singlet oxygen release at the same wavelength, offer enhanced treatment control and potential synergy. This work aims to develop a green synthesis route for biocompatible anisotropic gold nanoparticles equipped with a fluorescent thermometer for photothermal and photodynamic bio-applications.

Stay abroad: from 04/01/2025 to 18/05/2025, Budapest (Hungary) + from 30/05/2025 to 22/07/2025 Brest (France).
