Luisa D’Urso in 2003 obtained the PhD in Material Science at University of Catania and during the PhD was involved in the research project: Direct Wafer Bonding to employ in design and realization of a bottom cell in multijunction solar cells - developed at California Institute of Technology (CalTech), Pasadena (USA) with prof. H. Atwater. In the period 2003-2008 was engaged in research fellows at University of Catania with several projects on the synthesis and characterization of nanostructured thin films of metals, semiconductors and carbon based materials by using a number of spectroscopies and microscopies.
From 2008 is Researcher (CHIM/02) at University of Catania - Department of Chemical Sciences.
She is author of more than 45 papers, published on international journals in the field of synthesis of nanomaterials in liquid and solid state, spectroscopy, ion, electron, laser-matter interaction, and thin films deposition. According to ISI Web of Science, she has an h-index of 14.
In the framework of scientific activity, she has collaborations with various research groups in Italy (CNR-IMM Catania, Astrophysical Observatory of Catania - INAF, Department of Physics and Earth Sciences and Electronic Engineering of the University of Messina) and abroad (Trinity College Dublin, Department of Chemistry and Biophysics University of Michigan). She is a referee for: Journal of the American Chemical Society, The Journal of Physical Chemistry, Chemistry Central Journal.
She is Lecturer of Laboratory of Physical Chemistry II at the degree course in Chemistry and of Organic Nanostructures (mod CHIM/02) at the degree course in Organic and Bio-organic Chemistry.
She is Co-Organizer of XX National Congress of the group of Raman Spectroscopy and non-linear effects. Catania, 27-29 Jun 2007, of 1st European Conference on Physical and Theoretical Chemistry (14-18 September 2015 University of Catania, Catania, Italy) of International Symposium on Protein Misfolding Diseases (July 31-August 3, 2017-University of Catania, Catania, Italy).
Luisa D’Urso is responsible of the AFM-Raman Laboratory at BRIT (Bio-nanotech Research and Innovation Tower, University of Catania) and she has been involved as participant in national and international research projects (PRIN 2007, FIR 2014, PRIN 2015, PON- PLAST_Ics).
