Research activity and bibliometric data

The current research activity is focused on the synthesis, functionalization and characterization of inorganic nanostructures and hybrid systems for biomedical, environmental and energy applications. In the biomedical field, particular attention is devoted to the development of magnetic nanoparticles and Metal-Organic Framework (MOF)-based materials for drug transport and delivery, as well as for antibacterial applications. In the environmental and energy fields, the research focuses on the synthesis of high-surface-area materials, particularly MOFs and inorganic nanostructures deposited on electrodes, for sensing, photoelectrocatalysis, and energy production and storage, including hydrogen production.

Prof. Condorelli has supervised 15 Master’s Degree theses in Chemistry, Chemistry of Materials and Chemical Sciences, 3 five-year Degree theses in Chemistry or Industrial Chemistry, 14 Bachelor’s Degree internships in Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry, and 6 University Diploma theses in Materials Science. He is currently supervising one Bachelor’s thesis in Chemistry.

He has also been academic supervisor of 2 PhD theses in Materials Science (M. Favazza, cycle XX; C. Tudisco, cycle XXIV) and 8 PhD theses in Materials Science and Nanotechnologies (A.E. Giuffrida, cycle XXIX; F. Monforte, cycle XXXII; L. Pulvirenti, cycle XXXV; G. Tranchida and V. Paratore, cycle XXXVII; V. Anastasi and R. Farina, cycle XXXVIII; A. Castro, cycle XXXIX). Four of these (F. Monforte, G. Tranchida, V. Anastasi and R. Farina) were funded by CNR-IMM and co-supervised with CNR-IMM researchers (Dr A. La Magna, S.M. Privitera and S. Libertino). He is currently supervisor of one PhD student in Materials Science and Nanotechnologies (A. Di Grazia, cycle XL).

He has served on numerous final examination committees for Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in programs belonging to the Department of Chemical Sciences.
