“Bioinspired Chemistry: Where Chemistry Meets Nature”

The Department of Chemical Sciences of the University of Catania announces the opening of the call for applications for the third edition of the EUNICE Excellence Programme in Bioinspired Chemistry, promoted within the framework of the EUNICE European University Alliance and coordinated by the University of Mons (Belgium), in partnership with Poznan University of Technology (Poland) and the University of Catania.

The programme offers an international educational pathway focused on bioinspired chemistry, sustainability, smart materials, and scientific innovation, combining advanced teaching, international mobility, and research activities.


Available Pathways

1. Certified EUNICE Pathway (60 ECTS)

  • International Summer School in Catania (6 ECTS)
  • 12 ECTS of on-site courses at UNICT
  • 12 ECTS of shared online courses offered by UMONS and PUT
  • Erasmus+ Traineeship mobility for thesis research at partner universities (30 ECTS)

2. Thesis Mobility Pathway

  • Participation in the International Summer School
  • Erasmus+ Traineeship mobility for thesis research

International Summer School

The Summer School will take place in Catania from 7 to 11 September 2026 and will provide students with the opportunity to meet professors and researchers from partner universities, as well as laboratories where thesis research projects may be carried out.


Eligibility Requirements

The programme is primarily addressed to students enrolled in the first year of the Master’s Degree in Chemical Sciences (LM-54).

For the Thesis Mobility Pathway, students enrolled in other Master’s Degree programmes or in the fourth year of single-cycle degree programmes may also apply.

Applicants must demonstrate an English language proficiency level of B2.


Required Documents

  • Proof of enrolment at the University of Catania
  • Transcript of records from the Bachelor’s Degree
  • Transcript of records from the Master’s Degree
  • English language certification at B2 level
  • Motivation letter (maximum 10,000 characters)

Application Deadline

Applications must be submitted by 12 June 2026.

A maximum of 5 UNICT students per pathway will be selected.

Applications will be evaluated by a selection committee composed of professors from the partner universities.


Mobility and Funding Opportunities

Selected students may access Erasmus+ funding opportunities for research activities, traineeships, and internationally co-supervised thesis projects.
