Curriculum vitae  – July 2023

He graduated in Chemistry in 1984 at Catania University. He got the PhD in Industrial Chemistry from Catania University in 1989. Since 1991 to 2010 he was Research Scientist in Industrial Chemistry at the Department of Chemical Sciences of Catania University. In 1993, with a grant from CNR, he worked for one year with Prof. Robbie Burch in the Catalysis Research Group Laboratories at Reading University (United Kingdom). Since November 2010 to September 2020 he was Associate Professor in Industrial Chemistry at the Department of Chemical Sciences of Catania University. Since October 2020 he is Full professor in Industrial Chemistry at the Department of Chemical Sciences of Catania University.

Since 1995 he was lecturer of several university courses (Chemistry and Technology of Glass and Ceramics (1995-1998), Chemistry and Technology of Petroleum (2000-2003), Industrial Organic Chemistry (1998-2010), Fundamentals of Industrial Chemistry (2004-now), Technologies for Industrial Chemistry (2004-now), Catalytic technologies for the environment and the energy (2006-now).

Since 2000 he is a member of the teaching staff of the PhD course in Chemistry at Catania University. Since 2012 to 2019 he was the President of the Degree Course in Industrial Chemistry. Since 2011 to 2017 he was the Erasmus and International delegate for the Department of Chemical Sciences of Catania University. Since May to October 2019 he was deputy-director of the Department of Chemical Sciences of Catania University.

He is reviewer for several leading international Journals devoted to catalysis and material science (Applied Catalysis B, Applied Catalysis A, Journal of Hazardous Materials, Sensors & Actuators B, Catalysis Communications, Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, Catalysts, Environmental Engineering Science, ACS Catalysis, Journal of Catalysis, Catalysis Letters, Chemical Engineering Journal, Journal of Thermal Analysis, Current Nanomaterials, Fuel Processing Technology, Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Material Chemistry and Physics).

He is co-editor of Gold Catalysts, Topical Collection in Catalysts (MDPI) and he is in the editorial board of J - Multidisciplinary Scientific Journal (MDPI) and of J. Photocatalysis (Bentham Science), Materials (Section: Catalytic Materials) (MDPI) and Frontiers in Catalysis (Frontiers).

He was the scientific responsible of some research projects (PRIN 1999 and 2001, PON R&C 2007-2013 BIO4BIO) funded by the Italian Minister of University.

He collaborated with petrochemical (Erg-Lukoil) and microelectronic (ST Microelectronics) industries and with other university scientists all over the world. He was in the organizing committee of some international congresses of Industrial Chemistry.

His research activity is focused on heterogeneous catalysis and related fields. Special interest has been devoted to the study of oxide-supported mono and bimetallic catalysts and to the application of catalysis to the environment protection and the energy production, also adopting photocatalytic approaches.

Specific interests were: synthesis, catalytic activity measurements and physico-chemical characterization of supported catalysts; catalysts for environmental protection; catalysts in the petrochemical industry and refinery; catalysts for energy production; gold based mono and bimetallic catalysts; gold-based catalysts for sensors and pollution control devices; cerium oxide and iron oxide based catalysts for low temperature combustion of VOCs; photocatalytic oxidation and water splitting; hydrogen on demand production; hydrogen purification for fuel cell applications; chemometric applications in industrial chemistry and genomics.

Research activity of Prof. Scirè is documented by 120 publications in international journals, 1 patent, 1 book, several book chapters and more than 110 contributions in scientific meetings.
