Graziella Vecchio’s research activity is primarily in the field of bioinorganic chemistry. Specifically, her work has focused on the synthesis of cyclodextrins functionalized with chelating systems and their metal complexes, studied as chiral receptors and models of metalloenzymes.
She has also worked on the design of glyco-conjugates of metal ion chelators, exploiting the properties of sugars for the recognition of receptors in biological systems, with biomedical applications such as anti-tumor activity, anti-platelet aggregation, and as antibiotic adjuvants.
More recently, her research has focused on the synthesis of cyclodextrin-based nanoparticles, functionalized with chelators and targeting agents, for drug delivery and other biomedical applications.
Her research also includes the synthesis of coordination compounds of chelating molecules as potential chemotherapeutic agents.
Collaborations: Italian and International research groups, CNR, and some Italian Hospitals (Genoa, Crotone, Lecco).
