Research activity

Graziella Vecchio's research activity was mainly carried out in the field of bioinorganic chemistry. Particularly, her research activity is focused on the synthesis and characterization of functionalized cyclodextrins and their metal complexes. The functionalized systems have been studied as chiral receptors and metallo-enzyme mimetics. She has also worked on the design of glycoconjugates of metal chelators able to exploit the recognition ability of the sugar moiety for targeting biological systems The glycoconjugates of coordination compounds have also been investigated for biomedical applications (anticancer and antiaggregant agents, antibiotic adjuvants).

Recently she has been working on the synthesis of nanosystems based on cyclodextrins functionalized for their application as drug delivery systems and metallo-enzyme mimetics.

Collaborations: Italian research groups, CNR, Sussex University, Maynooth University (Ireland), Some Italian Hospitals (Genoa, Crotone, Lecco, Trieste).

Publications

Graziella Vecchio is author or co-author of more than 126 articles published on peer reviewed international journals, that have received more than 3200 citations, and of 15 book chapters. Her h-index is 34 (Scopus).

She is also inventor in 3 Italian patents and 2 PCT extensions.
